Fearless Women, Visions Of A New World

My fearless friend, Mary Ann Halpin, is releasing her fourth photo/essay book this month. Entitled Fearless Women, Visions of a New Wrld, the book is third in a series of Fearless Women books.

To celebrate the new book and the Fearless Women movement, an amazing group of visionary women are meeting in Los Angeles, May 18-19, to create a soul stirring, heart storming, authentic connection in celebration of Mary Ann’s book and the growing call for women to step in and step up to lead the charge in shaping the future of our planet.

Come meet the women featured in Mary Ann’s new book and be inspired. Celebrate the Fearless Woman that you are with other visionary women! Bring a fearless friend!

The Internet On Strike

I just bumped into my first website on strike.  I know of a couple of others who put up black marks over their logos.  The implications of the web on strike are fascinating to me.  This is a highly organized campaign.  Notice that somebody created the page below and offered it to anybody who cared to use it.  The template also includes a form for emailing Congress.

See the page live at http://sopastrike.com/strike.

UPDATE:  I accidentally bumped into a setting on my blog dashboard offering to send my site dark or add a ribbon of protest.  Talk about organized!  This blog is on the wordpress.com platform.  A setting like this makes it extremely simple for hundreds of thousands of bloggers to black out today.  Like I said above — fascinating….

A Happy Accidental Blast From My Past

Through a very circuitous route, I bumped into this article today.  It appeared almost 10 years ago and was a big deal for me as I was starting to make my transition out of the practice of law.  It also happened around the same time that I got married and started my family.  I love that the web is like a time capsule that I can extract ten years later “by accident.”  And who was it that knew that this was exactly the day that I needed to see that???  =)

Insert the word “lawyer” and you’ll understand me perfectly.  Of course, I jumped in on the last down cycle instead of the current cycle to find “the one” and start my family.

Yeah right.  My life has not been as intentional as that described in the story, but the patterns certainly resonate.  Not sure how I missed the chapter on “make millions, ” however.

Charter for Compassion

Charter for Compassion. Please join me in supporting this important movement.

From their website:

A call to bring the world together…

The principle of compassion lies at the heart of all religious, ethical and spiritual traditions, calling us always to treat all others as we wish to be treated ourselves. Compassion impels us to work tirelessly to alleviate the suffering of our fellow creatures, to dethrone ourselves from the centre of our world and put another there, and to honour the inviolable sanctity of every single human being, treating everybody, without exception, with absolute justice, equity and respect.

It is also necessary in both public and private life to refrain consistently and empathically from inflicting pain. To act or speak violently out of spite, chauvinism, or self-interest, to impoverish, exploit or deny basic rights to anybody, and to incite hatred by denigrating others—even our enemies—is a denial of our common humanity. We acknowledge that we have failed to live compassionately and that some have even increased the sum of human misery in the name of religion.

We therefore call upon all men and women ~ to restore compassion to the centre of morality and religion ~ to return to the ancient principle that any interpretation of scripture that breeds violence, hatred or disdain is illegitimate ~ to ensure that youth are given accurate and respectful information about other traditions, religions and cultures ~ to encourage a positive appreciation of cultural and religious diversity ~ to cultivate an informed empathy with the suffering of all human beings—even those regarded as enemies.

We urgently need to make compassion a clear, luminous and dynamic force in our polarized world. Rooted in a principled determination to transcend selfishness, compassion can break down political, dogmatic, ideological and religious boundaries. Born of our deep interdependence, compassion is essential to human relationships and to a fulfilled humanity. It is the path to enlightenment, and indispensible to the creation of a just economy and a peaceful global community.

Happy Palindrome Day To Me

Yesterday’s date was a perfect palindrome at 0102 2010.  And it happened on my birthday.  How cool is that?  Happy Palindrome Day to me!

What is a palindrome?  It is a word, phrase, number or other sequence of units that can be read in either direction.  You can read more than you’ll ever want to know about palindromes at Wikipedia.

Here is a list of amazing palindromes.

And while it’s not happy birthday, here is a cool palindrome song:

Oh what the heck!  Let’s throw in a birthday song, too:

Happy Palindrome Day to me!
